Field Trip App On Google Glass Will Become Your Own Amazing Personal Tour Guide

Field Trip App On Google Glass Will Revolutionise Your Holiday

There's a lot of hype around Google Glass - and a lot of scepticism.

But when an app like 'Field Trip' gets a demonstration it's hard to not be blown away with just how much augmented reality could really improve day-to-day life.

The app essentially acts a a tour guide for the wearer by automatically detecting nearby points of interest and bringing up information.

Information at your... eyeballs

Field trip is already available on Android and iOS but the wearability factor adds a whole new dimension - and also means you'll be looking at whatever it is you're reading about rather than your phone.

The app uses a variety of partners for its information meaning you'll be covered for arts, food and drink as well as historical and interesting areas.

The blurb for the current phone app says:

Field Trip can help you learn about everything from local history to the latest and best places to shop, eat, and have fun. You select the local feeds you like and the information pops up on your phone automatically, as you walk next to those places.

What did you discover today? Enrich yourself with a Field trip during your commute. Live like a local when you travel to new places. Eat and shop off the beaten path. Or simply discover the obscure history about your neighbourhood during your next walk to the park.

The app was developed by John Hanke from Niantic Labs.

Google Glass will be commercially available in 2014.
