James Bulger Killer Jon Venables 'Secretly Released From Prison'

James Bulger Killer 'Freed Again'

Jon Venables - one of the notorious child killers of James Bulger - has been secretly freed from prison, it was reported today.

But James's mum Denise Fergus said she was only told yesterday that Venables, 31, had been granted parole.

Venables was freed from for a fourth time from prison after being locked up in 2010 for downloading images of child abuse, The Sun said.

The killer had previously served eight years for brutally murdering two-year-old James in Liverpool in 1993.

The toddler's mother told the newspaper Venables is "a danger to the public".

"He lies for his own sick ends," she said.

"I have been told that the terms of his parole mean that he must not enter the county of Merseyside.

"But the Probation Service didn't monitor him properly last time so I have no faith in their ability to do that now.

"They should've kept him locked up for a long time."

Venables was just 10 years old when he and his friend, Robert Thompson, tortured and murdered James after abducting him from a shopping centre in Bootle.

The killer was reportedly granted parole in July with officials putting the finishing touches to his new identity, which has reportedly cost £250,000.

Venables was first given a new identity when he and Thompson were sent to a young offenders' institution for murdering the toddler.

A second new identity was created for him when he was released in 2001, and he was given a third identity after he was sent back to jail in 2010 for possessing child abuse images.

The total bill to protect Venables' identity is said to have reached £1million with his latest release.

James's father, Ralph, said he is convinced Venables will commit more crime, a friend said.

"He hasn't put a time on it but he is convinced he will reoffend," she said.

She added that the family had not been given updates on the plans to release the killer and Mr Bulger was told via his lawyer.

"As ever they are kept in the dark.

"They don't explain the terms of his release, I don't know whether they are going to.

"But I don't think Venables can enter Merseyside, however - that was one of the conditions which he repeatedly broke before."
