Celebrity Malin Akerman Reveals Her Secret Food Splurges, Diet Tips And How She Stays In Shape

Celebrity Diet Tips From Malin Akerman

Actress Malin Akerman, as you may have noticed from The Watchmen, Rock of Ages and Couples Retreat, has an amazing body but also manages to exude this wonderful 'I'd quite like to share a pint down the pub with her' vibe.

Originally from Sweden and having grown up in Canada, she's currently juggling work and her home life which includes husband rocker Roberto Zincone and her newborn son, Sebastian.

She looks fantastic, post-partum, but we get the vibe that Malin isn't down with some of the crazy post-preggers weight loss regimes that seem to be prolific in her industry.

So, how does she manage it? And what are her tips to getting fit and looking healthy? HuffPost UK Lifestyle caught up with her to find out.

Describe a typical breakfast, lunch and dinner for you.

Breakfast usually starts with Kim Snyder's glowing green smoothie, which consists of romaine lettuce, celery, apple, pear, banana, lemon and water all mixed in a blender. Then, 20 minutes later I eat an omelette or some oatmeal.

Lunch is usually some kind of salad with protein, and/or a small plate of pasta.

Dinner is fish/chicken/beef and veggies with brown rice or quinoa and/or lentil soup or something of the sort.

Are there any foods you refuse to eat?

Tripe! My husband loves it, but I tend to stay away from the animal organs.

How do you treat yourself?

Now more than ever, I appreciate the little delights in each day. For me, that’s everything from getting to spend extra time with my family to enjoying my favorite snack during a break on set.

I keep plenty of fruits, veggies and Müller yogurt on-hand to snack on between things and on-the-go. The FrütUp Mango is creamy yogurt topped with whipped fruit mouse on top so it’s like dessert without the guilt.

Also, dark chocolate is a must have.

When you splurge, what do you love to go for?

Nutella! By the spoonful!

What's your attitude to diets?

I've never been one to diet, because I feel as though it messes with your metabolism. I prefer to just keep a balanced diet.

Eating three big meals and two snacks throughout the day. Staying away from fried foods and heavy creams, but always allowing for one day a week to be a complete day of indulgence. Everything in moderation!

A lot of women find that as they get older their bodies change - have you noticed this?

Yes, unfortunately we can't eat all the things we used to as teenagers! But I am a foodie and don't want to give up my chocolate and wine, so I just work out more often in order so that I can enjoy my food.

You've obviously got a great bod - do you have to work hard at it?

Thank you! It’s really a combination of things – exercise and eating right. I work out at least three times a week and try to get a few hikes in in between.

What's your favourite bit on your body?

My booty right now. I got just a smidge more of a booty since having the baby and I love it!

Celebrity Diet Advice We Want

How often do you workout?

I try to stay active as much as possible while still having fun. Thank goodness in LA the sun is always shining, so I love grabbing a girlfriend for a hike. Having a workout buddy helps keep me on track. My husband and I also love to take long evening walks, and with Sebastian in the stroller it adds some weight. In general. I would say three times a week. Anything from pilates to cycling to cross training.

Your trainer is a former navy seal - how hard does he push you?

Well, I don't have a personal trainer, but the trainer we had on Watchmen was a former navy seal and he was the one who got me hooked on cross training. He would work us so hard that I thought I was going to puke! He would blast heavy metal music and yell at me to keep going when i thought i couldn't push anymore. I loved it. I guess I work well under pressure.

What exercises do you love and what do you dread?

I love cycling and dancing! I HATE running. It actually makes me angry.

Do you do yoga or meditation?

Yoga sometimes. Meditation for me is anything from going on a walk to sitting in silence with a coffee in the park, so yes, I do my own version of meditation.

You're a new mum - how do you make sure you have time for balance in your life?

It’s really the biggest role I’ve had in my whole life and absolutely amazing. He’s brought us so much joy. He’s 14 weeks old now, and he’s smiling and cooing, and just learned how to roll over – it’s so cute and fun to watch. Having a kid really and truly does change your life in the best way possible.

I mean, you don’t get to decide when you sleep, you eat on-the-go, and have to fit things in where you can, but now I have the biggest love of my life and it’s all worth it. It’s certainly was a change at first, especially being a working mom. Each day is a juggling act!
