'PS Vita TV' Console Is A Small, Cheap Attack On The Apple TV

Sony has announced another new PlayStation console for your TV.

The PS Vita TV is a very cheap, and very tiny console designed to sit under your TV and play games until now only available on its PS Vita and PSP handheld consoles.

Intended as a competitor to the Apple TV more than established consoles - including its own PS3 and upcoming PS4 - the emphasis with the Vita TV is on simpler games, and a mix of entertainment and PS4-related features.

The 6cm x 10cm device supports several online TV services - likely suspects would include Netflix, for instance .

It can also play PlayStation 4 games if your bigger console is connected to another TV already in use by someone else.

The console, which was announced in Japan, will cost less than 10,000 yen, which is about $95 (more likely £99 in the UK, with tax added). A more expensive bundle which comes with a controller and memory card will cost $143.

It will be out in Japan in November - there is no word about a European launch, but it would seem likely at some stage.
