BAE Systems Releases New Footage Of Britain's Futuristic 'Type 26' Warship (VIDEO)

LOOK: Britain's New 'Type 26' Warship Is Terrifying, Or Amazing

BAE Systems has released a terrifying but awe-inspiring new video of Britain's futuristic new 'Type 26' warship.

The Global Combat Ship will enter service in 2020, once building work begins in 2016.

The ship will carry a crew of 190, with a top speed of 26 knots and will displace the equivalent of 50 blue whales-worth of water (about 6,000 tonnes).

BAE released the new video to mark the announcement of four major design partners. It siad that Rolls-Royce, MTU, David Brown Gear Systems and Rohde & Schwarz had all signed 'design development agreements' to develop key propulsion and communication equipment for the ship.

More than 550 people are currently working at BAE, the Ministry of Defence and other partners on the craft.

BAE says of the impressive-looking ship:

"The Global Combat Ship will be a multi-mission warship capable of undertaking a wide range of roles from high intensity warfare to humanitarian assistance, either operating independently or as part of a task group. Designed with an acoustically quiet hull, it will support anti-submarine warfare, air defence and general purpose variants.

The Global Combat Ship will take full advantage of modular design and open systems architecture, ensuring it can be easily upgraded as new technology develops and can accommodate sub-systems and equipment to individual customer needs."
