Apple has started taking pre-orders for its new iPhone 5C handset, which was announced earlier this week.
The colourful, plastic device has the same internals and camera as the previous generation iPhone 5, but is offered at a lower cost on a variety of contracts.
The iPhone 5C will be released on September 20 alongside the higher-end iPhone 5S, which has a built-in fingerprint scanner, a 64-bit processor and an improved camera.
The 5C is available unlocked on Apple's website starting at £469 (16GB) and rising to £549 (32GB). It comes in five colours - grey, yellow, blue, red and green.
The phone can also be pre-ordered for 'free' on a two-year contract via Carphone Warehouse, and many of the UK's major network operators.
The 5S will start at £549 unlocked for the 16GB model, rising to £709 for the 64GB. It is not being made available for pre-order in the UK, but will also be cheaper if purchased with a contract.
