GTA 5 'iFruit' Companion App Released On App Store

Still waiting for your copy of GTA 5 to arrive? Fear not - you can play right now, for free, sorta, thanks to two companion apps which have just been released on the App Store.

The iFruit app allows you to interact with the game directly, from your smartphone. Presented as a 'phone within a phone', you can customise cars that you'll drive in-game and play with protagonist Franklin's pet Rottweiler.

The cars portion allows you to select engine types, wheels, brajes and designs for cars that you can use in GTA 5 itself and the upcoming GTA online.

In the 'Chop The Dog' portion, you can train your pooch to be a more effective pet - and if he's good enough he'll eventually start finding stuff for you inside the full game.

The app description adds:

"How would we survive without apps? Apps can transform your mobile device into essential tools like a harmonica, disco ball or convincing moustache. Somewhere out there is the perfect storm of touchscreen technology to fix everything that's wrong with your life. And maybe all you're missing is the iFruit app. Maybe not. At least you'll have something to keep you entertained while your significant other prattles on endlessly about their day."

Meanwhile Rockstar has also released a full manual and interactive game map app, to help you navigate the frankly enormous world of Los Santos.

Both are iOS only for now, but versions for Android, Windows Phone and Playstation Vita are said to be on the way.
