Apple's new mobile operating system might have its detractors, but it also has at least one big fan: the New York City Police Department.
According to various reports received over the weekend, the NYPD is urging citizens to upgrade to iOS 7 because of its enhanced security features.
In a typo-strewn leaflet distributed around the city, including on the Subway, the NYPD's 72nd precinct said that the software "gives added security to your devices".
And while you might think it's the fingerprint sensor that's got officers singing the praises of Apple's latest innovations, it's actually just a new setting added to all versions of the OS - including existing devices.
The new 'Find My Phone Activation Lock' simple means that if your phone is stolen, you can set it to require your Apple ID password before it can be used.
Users activate the lock remotely, from any computer or mobile device.
The idea is that thieves will be dissuaded from stealing iPhones if they know the phones will be effectively useless.
