A Cambridge graduate who lost his wife in the Kenya terror attack tonight said he was "devastated and heartbroken by the sudden loss". Briton Niall Saville, an economic development consultant from Lincolnshire, was wounded in the siege at Westgate shopping centre in Nairobi which ended yesterday after four days.
Saville, who was shot in the shoulder, lost his South Korean wife Moon Hee Kang after suffering grenade wounds sustained during the attack. In a joint statement issued through the Foreign Office, the Saville and Kang families said: "The Saville family wish to confirm that Niall was injured in the Nairobi attack on Saturday, and that his wife, Moon Hee Kang, was fatally wounded.
"The Saville and Kang families are devastated and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Moon Hee. She was very close to the Saville family and brought so much joy to all of their lives. She and Niall had lived in numerous locations around the world together, but they always had time for both families.
"Moon Hee was a bright, loving, kind and genuine person who will be greatly missed. Both families need to focus on grieving and supporting Niall through his recovery and request that there is no more intrusion into their lives. Mourning the loss of Moon Hee is something they wish to do privately and politely request they, and Niall, are left alone.
"Both families wish to extend thanks to (employers) Dalberg, former colleagues, friends, consular staff at The Foreign and Commonwealth Offices both in the UK and Nairobi, the Aga Khan Hospital and staff, and the Embassy of South Korea in Nairobi, plus the Red Cross for their overwhelming kindness and support."
