National Apprenticeship Week: How To Get Your Degree By Doing An Apprenticeship

WATCH: How To Get Your Degree By Doing An Apprenticeship

As it's National Apprenticeship Week, we've teamed up with the National Apprenticeship Service to bring you this video on how to get your degree by taking an alternative route into employment.

Students who complete Higher Apprenticeships are the most desirable employees, with businesses rating them 25% more employable than those who took an alternative route into work, according to recent research.

One in six apprentices currently progress to Higher Education following their apprenticeship, either at a college or a university, but Higher Apprenticeships now offer degree level learning while people earn at Foundation, Bachelor and Master degree levels.

Higher Apprenticeships are currently available in 41 subjects including Engineering Environmental Technologies, Interactive Media, Legal Services and Space Engineering and offer a different route to degree-level qualifications than traditional university study – with more subjects being added.

The full list is available at apprenticeships.org.uk.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock said: “We want Apprenticeships or University to become the new norm for young people leaving school and Higher Apprenticeships are an excellent way to enter high-profile careers while also achieving a degree-level qualification.”
