Rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse Sweeps Across Europe, Africa And America (PICTURES)

A rare hybrid solar eclipse has swept across parts of the United States, Europe and Africa, creating spectacular scenes.

A solar eclipse happens when the moon blocks our view of the sun.

This particular eclipse is a hybrid because it is both a total and an annular eclipse, which occurs every 159 years and won't be seen again till 2172.

Skywatchers have taken to social media to share their stunning images of this celestial phenomenon.
