Man Finds $98,000 In Desk He Bought On Craigslist

And he returns it! Well, he is a man of God.

Yes, Noah Muroff - a young Rabbi from New Haven, Connecticut - no doubt couldn't believe his eyes when he bought a desk from a buyer on Craigslist for just $150... and then found nearly $100,000 in cash inside it.

He made the discovery when he was taking the desk apart to fit it through a doorway. “It fit perfectly into my van but when we got home, it was about a quarter of an inch too big to fit into my office,” Rabbi Muroff told VIN News. As Muroff explained to The Tablet: “We detached these drawers and removed the top, and behind it was this bag."

'This bag' contained cash in $2,000 and $5,000 bundles - adding up to $98,000 (£61,000) in total. “We counted it up a few times to be sure,” he said. “We were laughing at each other in disbelief, we were in total shock.”

Muroff and his wife immediately decided to return the money to the woman who had sold them the desk. She had apparently stuffed the cash away as her nest egg - but, when she couldn't find it, assumed it was lost somewhere else in her house.

In a note thanking Muroff for his honesty and integrity, the lady wrote: “I do like to believe that there are still good people left in this crazy world we live in. You certainly are one of them... I will be forever grateful.”
