Sony To 'Adjust' PS4 Digital Game Prices After Gamers' Fury

Sony has pledged to "adjust" some of the prices for games in its digital PS4 store after an outcry that they were set higher than comparable titles on competing services.

Gamers were angry that games such as EA's key launch title FIFA 14 were set as high as £62.99 (later dropped to £59.99) in the PSN store ahead of the console's launch on Friday.

Prices for FIFA, Battlefield 4 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag were priced up to £8 more expensive than the same titles on Microsoft's Xbox One store. They are also significantly higher than the lowest-priced boxed versions available online.

Many PS4s have already been activated in the UK by members of the press, celebrities and other early-adopters who imported consoles early from the US.

According to Eurogamer the disparity was due to Sony using a different pricing "matrix" - essentially how currency conversion is calculated.

But now Sony has promised to "adjust" the prices. A spokesperson told Eurogamer:

"Although PS4 launches in Europe on the 29th November, we have switched on the European PSN early to test and make sure that features and functionality are fully operational for launch," Sony told Eurogamer.

"However, as PS4 and PSN have not yet officially launched in this region, nothing on the PSN is final, including pricing on the store. You will continue to see some prices adjusted over the next few days in preparation for launch on Friday."

And if you've already bought a game on PSN and the game drops in price ahead of Friday, don't worry - you'll be refunded the difference.
