A woman was murdered and her husband found hanged, police said.

The couple were discovered at their home in Southall, west London, yesterday afternoon.

Scotland Yard said a post-mortem examination revealed the 35-year-old woman, known only as Poonam, was killed by "compression of the neck" while her husband, Sanjeev Kumar, 36, died of "suspension caused by hanging". His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Next of kin have been informed.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers were called at approximately 3.10pm on Friday 29 November to an address in Priory Way, Western Road, Southall following concerns for the welfare of residents there.

"Officers attended and discovered the bodies of a man and a woman, both aged in their 30s. Both were pronounced dead at the scene."

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
