Is Your Family Dog Photogenic?

I'm fairly sure Cesar Millan, dog whisperer extraordinaire, would thoroughly disapprove if he visited our home and saw how spoilt our family dog is. Toby has his own sofa in the lounge, enjoys family leftovers for dinner, and dominates a large portion of my digital camera memory. I'm definitely one of those insufferable owners who likes to show off pictures of him rolling over or catching a ball.

If you've got kids who love taking snaps of their pets too, you might be interested in the Kennel Club Dog Photographer of the Year competition. The annual competition is in its sixth year, and is part of the DFC Crufts awards 2010.

This year, there are four main categories, including:

  • Dogs at Work
  • Dogs at Play
  • Dog Portrait
  • Man's Best Friend
There's also a category especially for the under 16s, known as the "I love Dogs" category. Not only will your son or daughter be able to share their favourite photograph with the judges, but the winning image will be displayed at London's Leading Canine Event, Discover Dogs, on the 13 and 14 November 2010. Additionally, they'll win a day out with the professional dog photographer Marc Henrie, a one year membership of the Young Kennel Club and a digital camera in addition to the framed print.

To enter, the fee is only £3.50 for four images, and the closing date is 31 August . You can find out more details on www.dogimages.org.uk
