ESO Video Lets You Zoom Through The Universe In 49 Seconds

WATCH: Zoom Through The Universe In 49 Seconds

Ever wondered what it would be like to hurtle through the night sky at impossibly vast speeds, watching stars streak silently past before slowing down at equally impossible speeds to take in the vista of a gigantic star-forming nebula?

Sure you have. And now the European Southern Observatory can help you sate that curiosity.

A new video posted by ESO features a zoom sequence which travels from a view of the entire sky down to the Large (though comparatively small) Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy near to our own. The image continues to zoom until it shows just the VLT Image of NGC 2035, a cloud of star-forming material next to the remnants of a supernova.
