Stoke City Vs Manchester United Preview: The Potters' 1993 League Cup Win (VIDEO)

Stein At The Double: When Stoke Last Beat United In '93 (VIDEO)

Stoke City entertain Manchester United in tonight's Capital One Cup quarter-final having not beaten the champions in any of their 10 encounters since they won promotion to the Premier League in 2008.

In fact, Stoke have lost all but one of those games. United, under Sir Alex Ferguson, rarely struggled against the infamous physicality of Tony Pulis's side at the Britannia Stadium, save for a bruising 1-1 draw in September 2011.

And for 20 years the answer to the quiz question has remained the same. Mark Stein actually got two the night Stoke last beat United, which also came, coincidentally, in the 1993-94 League Cup.

Stoke 2-1 United, 1993

Back when it was called the Coca-Cola Cup and the third round was played over two legs, Stein struck two belters either side of a Dion Dublin goal at the now demolished Victoria Ground.

What was a famous night for the then-Division One side was overshadowed when United won the return leg at Old Trafford, thanks to goals from Lee Sharpe and Brian McClair.

Ferguson's side reached their third final in four seasons, but were beaten 3-1 by Aston Villa at Wembley.
