Nvidia Tegra K1 Mobile Chip Is More Powerful Than A PS3

WATCH: New Mobile Chip Is More Powerful Than A PS3

A new mobile chip unveiled at the CES 2014 tech show claims to be as powerful as a PS3.

The NVIDIA Tegra K1 is capable of "PC-class" gaming, the company said at its press conference.

And while you might be pleased with your dual- or quad-core phone, this graphics chip has that beaten with a frankly ludicrous-sounding 192 cores.

The new chip is available in 32- and 64-bit variants, and will likely show up in a new generation of mobile phones from early this year.

"With the introduction of this revolutionary processor, we can take applications that run on PC or console and run it on Tegra,” said Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games and developer of Unreal Engine.

"From here onward, I think we’re going to see the performance and feature gap between mobile and PC high-end gaming continue to narrow to the point where the difference between the platforms really blurs."

Take a look at what all that power will actually be able to do in the video above.
