Whiteout Great Lakes Photograph By Nasa Shows Chilly Extent Of The Polar Vortex (PICTURE)

LOOK: Whiteout Covers The Entire Great Lakes Region

A few days ago we brought you some incredible photos of a frozen Lake Michigan that showed just how cold the 'Polar Vortex' is.

Now Nasa have provided an image that just shows the extent of the phenomenon.

The whiteout is caused by cold air over warm lake waters

The Great Lakes can barely be seen as the whole of the US Midwest is covered by a 'whiteout' as daytime temperatures hover around the -29C with a windchill of -45C.

The picture was captured by Nasa's GOES-East satellite.
