McDonald's Sued Again For Coffee Burns... 20 Years After Landmark Case

A woman has filed a law suit against McDonald’s, saying she was burned by hot coffee that spilled on her "carelessly" at one of the fast-food chain’s Los Angeles restaurants.

The lawsuit comes 20 years after a jury infamously awarded $2.9 million (£1.7 million) to a woman who was badly burned after she spilled hot coffee into her lap at a McDonald’s in Albuquerque.

That verdict was widely criticised and became a rallying cry for advocates of legal reform.

The new case was filed by Paulette Carr, who is seeking an unspecified amount of money after saying she was injured in January 2012.

As described in her lawsuit, a coffee that had been closed “negligently, carelessly, and improperly” spilled onto her.
