Ossie Ardiles, the World Cup winner and former Tottenham Hotspur player, has received over 20 stitches following a car crash in the Falkland Islands.

Argentinian Ardiles, 61, was in the Falklands making a television documentary with former Spurs teammate and 1981 FA Cup-winning hero Ricky Villa.

Ardiles is believed to have been driving the car, but passenger Villa was not injured in the accident which happened on Monday night.

South Atlantic News Agency reported Ardiles was airlifted to King Edward Memorial Hospital in Stanley, the capital of the Falklands, the BBC reported.

"My understanding is he is fine," his son, Pablo, said.

"He has 20 odd stitches in his head and my understanding is he has been hospitalised overnight. But he's fine."

The extent of his injuries was unknown but a nurse at the hospital described Ardiles as "fine", according to the Mail.
