Has The EU Helped Or Hindered Scottish Culture? (LIVE)

WATCH LIVE: Has The EU Helped Or Hindered Scottish Culture?

For almost 40 years EU funding has supported creative and cultural organisations and projects in Scotland. EU policies have also affected many areas of Scottish culture.

However, some have questioned what wider impact membership of the EU has had on Scottish culture? What impact has Europe had on Scottish music, art and language? Has membership of the EU helped or hindered the development of Scottish culture?

In view of the upcoming European Parliament elections on 22 May, this debate will ask what role the EU has had, or should have, in supporting Scottish culture. In what way does this matter when we select our representatives to the European Parliament?

Join broadcaster and author Andrew Neil on Burns Night for a lively discussion with prominent guests from the world of Scottish culture – live on The Huffington Post UK from 6-8pm.

The panel consists of:

Professor Richard Demarco, CBE, Professor Emeritus of European Cultural Studies at Kingston University, Scottish artist, art impresario and promoter of the arts.

Dr Donald Smith, playwright, novelist and performance poet, Director of the Scottish Storytelling Centre.

Dr Margaret A Mackay, Honorary Fellow of the University of Edinburgh's Celtic and Scottish Studies department.

We invite you to join the debate and put your questions to the panel on Twitter @EP_Edinburgh using #ReactScotland

This event is being organised with the support of the European Commission Office in Scotland.
