Police have released footage of a "barbaric" seven-minute attack on an innocent bus passenger in Birmingham.

The shocking video shows a couple brutally assault the passenger after he asked them to stop their two children from throwing sweets at him.

The violent attack, during which the victim was temporarily blinded with pepper spray, took place for an agonising seven minutes.

CCTV images released by West Midlands Police show the assault happened in front of the thug's two children.

The 21-victim, from Birmingham’s Woodgate area, suffered a badly broken nose and other facial injuries during the January 11 assault.

PC Rob Harper from West Midlands Police condemned the vicious attack in a statement.

He said: “The man was minding his own business when he politely asked the group to stop throwing sweets at him – but that request prompted a barbaric, prolonged attack.

At one stage the attacker even stood on a seat to get a better kicking angle, he added.

"What makes this even more shocking is that they unleashed this attack in front of the two children they were travelling with."

Police are appealing for hep finding the attackers, who left the number 24 bus with the children at the Green Man in Harborne at about 18:00 GMT.
