Happy Birthday Colin! 1.6m Facebook Likes For Autistic Boy, 10, Who Told His Mum He Had 'No Friends' For A Party

More than one million Facebookers have sent birthday wishes to a little boy who told his mother he had no friends to invite to a party.

Colin – who turns 11 on 9th March – has difficulty socialising and was diagnosed with a disorder similar to autism last year.

Colin will turn 11 on 9th March

“I said, ‘Why don’t you want a party?’” to which Colin replied: “Mom, who am I going to invite? I don’t have any friends.”

But Jennifer refused to let her son’s big day pass without notice, and set up a Facebook page inviting people to send him birthday wishes.

She wrote:

“I am Colin's mom, I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th. Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him. So when I asked him if he wanted a party for his birthday, he said there wasn't a point because he has no friends. He eats lunch alone in the office everyday because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office. So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party. Please join me in making my very original son feel special on his day.”

The page was set up earlier this month and has so far amassed 1.6million likes.

As well as online birthday wishes, Colin has also received a stack of birthday cards in the post – which his mother plans to keep hidden until the day.
