A first-year student at the University of York has been found dead in his student accommodation.

The 19-year old was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics when North Yorkshire Police were called to the premises at 9:15pm on Wednesday February 12.

North Yorkshire Police have confirmed there appeared to be no suspicious circumstances around the death, and the incident is being treated as a suicide.

A spokesman from North Yorkshire Police told The Huffington Post UK: "There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed, however formal identification has not yet taken place".

A file is being prepared on behalf of the coroner.

The University has declined to comment until more information is revealed about the student's identity.
