The European Cup winners' complacency almost cost them in the second leg, which the Gunners won 2-0, however Arsène Wenger has invariably come unstuck against the Bavarians.

Bayern have faced Arsenal in the last two seasons they have conquered Europe. Back in the 2000-01 campaign, they met each other in the second group stage as Arsenal came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Highbury, before a Giovane Élber winner separated the sides in the return fixture at the Olympic Stadium.
Four years later, a 3-2 aggregate Bayern triumph flattered a faltering Arsenal team that would fortuitously go on to claim the FA Cup two months later.
