Great Britain were battered 9-3 by Canada in the Winter Olympics men's final at the Ice Cube Curling Center.

Skip David Murdoch struggled throughout and came nowhere near to replicating his heroics in the semi-final on Wednesday, much to the chagrin of fans in Scotland and Sochi.

"I'd 8-2 be Scottish" was one joke some registered when the four Scotsmen trailed by six in the antepenultimate end. "Independence now," cried another.

As one tweeter said, "To recycle that wrung-out Andy Murray gag, these British curlers are becoming ever more Scottish."
