Eurovision 2014: UK Entry Is Unknown Molly Smitten-Downes Who Will Perform Self-Penned ‘Children Of the Universe' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Unknown To Represent UK IN Eurovision

This year’s UK entry to the Eurovision Song Contest has been confirmed as singer Molly Smitten-Downes, who will be performing a self-penned track ‘Children Of The Universe’.

While in recent years the UK panel have plumped for well-known acts, this year hopes are being pinned on 26-year-old Molly, who will jet off to Copenhagen to sing at the final on May 10.

The hopeful has already shared her excitement on Twitter, writing: “Wow! Totally overwhelmed by your reaction to Children of the Universe and the fact that I will be representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014! Thank you!!!!”

With just 4000 followers on Twitter, Molly is far less famous than previous entries, who have included the likes of Blue, former ‘X Factor’ hopeful Andy Abraham and Engelbert Humperdinck.

However, the Leicestershire-born singer isn’t a completely new face and has supported the likes of Tinie Tempah, Labrinth and Chase & Status on tour.

Molly also enjoyed brief chart success in 2006, when her voice appeared on a remix of German DJ Sash’s track ‘Encore Un Fois’.

The UK’s Eurovision track record isn’t exactly a success story and the last time a British entrant triumphed in the competition was over 15 years ago.

Despite hoping a well-known face would pull in the votes, last year’s entry Bonnie Tyler failed to impress and finished 19th in the competition.

The Eurovision Song Contest will be televised on BBC1 on Saturday, May 10 2014.
