“If you want to #SaveBBC3 sign this petition. I am a bit biased as @bbcthree was where 'Little Britain' started!” he wrote.

With over 115k signatures and counting, the Change.org petition is the fastest-growing and biggest petition relating to a television network to ever appear on the site.

Plenty of the BBC’s biggest stars have backed the campaign while TV lovers have been remembering the shows first aired on the innovative youth-orientated channel.

Plans to axe the channel in 2015 and make its programmes available via iPlayer only were confirmed by BBC Director-General Tony Hall yesterday afternoon.
