We'll admit that when we heard the news that world-famous singing sensation Susan Boyle had applied for a minimum wage job at a bookies earlier this year, we found it a little odd.

However, the singer has now explained her decision to apply for the £6-an-hour post, saying she was scared at the thought of ending up with no money.

She explained that when she saw the job advertised in a Ladbrokes window, she was taking some downtime in her career and was worried her success may have been running out.

The 52-year-old was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome last year, having falsely believed she'd suffered brain damage as a child for most of her life.
