There are some fundamental truths to the world - the Earth goes round the Sun, summer follows spring and water can't flow uphill.

Only it can.

A phenomenon known as the Leidenfrost effect allows water to float above a very hot surface by resting on a layer of vapour.

A team of scientists have take advantage of this to explore what can be achieved with simply water, heat and some grooved metal blocks.
