Traditional garden sprinklers waste 56% of the water they spray so what you need is an intelligent - and kind of cute - robotic helper.
Meet Droplet who is just those things.
Once programmed with the location and type of plants you own, Droplet will be able to autonomously negotiate your garden.
What's more it even checks the weather forecast to determine how much water is needed.
It can even do non-horticultural tasks such as filling up your pet's water bowl.
It's makers reckon it can reduce water consumption by up to 90% saving both money and the environment.
So, following in the wake of the Roomba, perhaps this is the start of the home run by miniature robots performing everyday tasks - there's already a robotic litter box.
Unfortunately the Droplet is currently only available in the US for $299 (£181).
