'Spotify For Magazines' Launches In The UK

A service claiming to be the "Spotify for magazines" has launched in the UK.

Readly is a £10-a-month service which lets users read magazines from 14 publishers on up to five devices, on an 'all you can read' basis.

The magazines include titles like WhatHiFi, Marie Claire, National Geographic Kids, Wallpaper, The Beano, Uncut, The Lady and Now.

Back issues for each title dating up to 12 months are available for each magazine, and users can organise their favourites in a library contained within the app.

Better still, the magazines stream to your device rather than relying on hefty downloads - meaning you should be reading within seconds.

The full list of publishers involved so far is: Haymarket, IPC, DC Thomson, Chelsea Magazines, Saga Publishing, Aceville, Eye to Eye, Wild Bunch Media, Time Out, The Lady, Prospect, Rouleur and Greenways. Readly says more are coming in future.

You can check out the app via the Apple App Store, Google Play, Amazon's app store and the Windows Marketplace.

Per Hellberg, CEO from Readly said:

"Readly provides users with access to the most current magazine issues as well as a huge library of content that is often not available to readers because of storage issues. It allows publishers to exploit both their current and long-tail content while giving subscribers access to a new consumption medium for magazines.

"Many aspects of entertainment consumption such as music and film have already demonstrated the effectiveness of the subscription model and magazines are a natural development of this trend."
