If you’ve ever been (rudely) awoken by your partner’s snores, you’re not alone.

A new study has found that almost a third of women have had their sleep interrupted by a snoring partner.

Men on the other hand, report far less disruption, with only 15% saying they’ve had their slumbers disturbed by their partner’s nasal roars.

The survey, carried out by laterooms.com, also found that only 24% of Brits get an uninterrupted night’s sleep on a regular basis.

What’s more, only half of us get the optimum level of sleep per night, which can affect your health and mood - and even your looks.

Throat and nose doctor Myles Black said that snoring “can be a serious cause of marital and relationship disharmony.”

Blogging for The Huffington Post UK, he explained: “The majority of patients I see in my clinic are men (although there are women too), and they almost always have a story about how their snoring is affecting their relationship.

"Either they end up sleeping in separate beds several times a week, or they don't and it causes arguments.”

He added that not getting a full night’s sleep can leave you irritable, resulting in further marital discord.

Although there is no quick fix for snoring, a number of cures can be investigated.

What you eat can affect the nightly roars, as does the position that you sleep in. There are also a number of over the counter remedies, or for a more permanent fix, surgery, but this must be discussed with your doctor.
