David Cameron Goes To Asda To Prove He Doesn't Just Shop At Waitrose

David Cameron went to Asda on Monday. Last week the prime minister got himself caught up in a row about elitism after he let slip he prefers the customers who shop at the more upmarket Waitrose. Today's conversation with Ange at the Asda fish counter is no doubt entirely coincidental.

The Daily Telegraph reported last Thursday that Cameron told an audience on John Lewis employees about his theory of "supermarket sociology".

"There is something about Waitrose customers, is that they are the most talkative," he said. "I found that if I shop in Waitrose it takes me about twice as long as everyone wants to stop you, and have a chat. Whereas in other supermarkets I find I can dart round very quickly and get everything. It is something about your customers, they are very talkative, engaged people."
