Strange White Light On Mars Hailed By Conspiracy Theorists As 'Proof' Of Life

A mysterious white light seen on the surface of Mars has been labelled evidence of life on the Red Planet... by someone who runs a website called UFO Sightings Daily.

Nasa, needless to say, aren't convinced.

The light in question can be seen on the surface of the planet in a picture taken on 3 April 2014 by the Mars rover Curiosity. (Look to the upper left)

Scott C Waring, editor of the UFO website which exhaustively covers supposed evidence of aliens, said:

"An artificial light source was seen this week in this NASA photo which shows light shining upward from...the ground. This could indicate there there is intelligent life below the ground and uses light as we do. This is not a glare from the sun, nor is it an artifact of the photo process. Look closely at the bottom of the light. It has a very flat surface giving us 100% indiction it is from the surface. Sure NASA could go and investigate it, but hey, they are not on Mars to discovery life, but there to stall its discovery."

Alas, Nasa said there is probably another explanation. Doug Ellison, an imaging expert at the JPL told NBC it was likely caused by a cosmic ray hitting the surface.
