US Navy's New Toy Is Absurdly Powerful

The US Navy have released footage of an electromagnetic rail gun, a devastating weapon developed in top-secret.

Instead of using an explosive propellant the device creates an electromagnetic field between two conductive rails.

The results are astounding - it fires a projectile at over seven times the speed of sound.

Bang

Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research, said: "It's now reality and it's not science fiction.

"It's actually real. You can look at it. It's firing."

Now they're not saying how much it cost to develop - it's gonna be a lot - they are lauding how much they will save on cheaper projectiles.

"You could throw anything at us, frankly and the fact that we now can shoot a number of these rounds at a very affordable cost, it's my opinion that they don't win.

"That...will give our adversaries a huge moment of pause to go: 'Do I even want to go engage a naval ship?"
