'I Went Through A Time Where I Was Really Depressed'

Miley Cyrus has revealed there have been periods in her life where she has struggled with depression.

In a new interview, the ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer describes a time when she was so depressed she locked herself in her bedroom and had to be saved by her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus.

“It was a lot to do with... I had really bad skin and I felt really bullied because of that. But I never was depressed because of the way someone else made me feel. I just was depressed.”

Miley added that part of what motivates her to perform is to try and prevent her fans from feeling the same way. She added: "They know that I’ve struggled with depression and that helped them get over theirs. That gives me a big purpose."

She also spoke to the magazine about the anxiety she used to feel when she was part of the Disney corporation, as well as during her relationship with Liam Hemsworth, admitting that she used to feel like she “would have died” if she didn’t have a boyfriend.

Miley has had a tough time of late, having taken to Twitter last week to mourn the loss of her dog Floyd, describing the day of his death as “the 2nd worst day of my life”.

She later honoured Floyd’s memory by performing her hit ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ alongside a 60-foot statue of the dog, and dedicated a rendition of the Coldplay ballad ‘The Scientist’ to his memory.
