‘EastEnders': Barbara Windsor Rules Out Returning As Peggy Mitchell

Barbara Rules Out Returning To Walford

‘EastEnders’ star Barbara Windsor has ruled out returning to Walford as Peggy Mitchell, revealing that she prefers her life post-Albert Square.

Barbara was a fixture on the BBC One soap for over fifteen years and left in 2010, before making a brief reappearance in Walford in 2013.

However Barbara is now happy enjoying her retirement, speaking at the Oliver Awards 2014, she told The Express: “I don’t want to have to sit down and start learning.

“I am 76 and I think that’s it.”

The actress married partner Scott Mitchell in 2000 and also stated that she now gets to spend more time with her hubby, adding: “My husband Scott and I had no life together when I was on the show.”

One man who will be disappointed by the news is Shane Richie, who plays Alfie Moon in the soap, as he previously said he’d love to have Babs back on set.

‘EastEnders’ has welcomed plenty of new faces in recent months, leaving poor Shane missing his old cast mates.

"When I walk down the corridor at work, I'm the only one I recognise!” he told Soaplife magazine. “I'm hoping Babs [Barbara Windsor], who played Peggy Mitchell, will come back."

Sorry Shane, but it’s not going to happen!

Since Barbara left for good in 2013, the Square hasn’t been short of drama and the residents are about to be rocked by the biggest ‘Whodunnit?’ since Phil Mitchell was shot in 2001.

Danny Dyer recently joined the cast as new landlord Mick Carter and his onscreen son Lee Carter, played by Danny-Boy Hatchard, has been quite a hit with the ladies since arriving in Walford.
