According to reports, Barbara had driven to Cheshire’s Knutford Police Station to demand the release of her daughter Maxine, who had been arrested for the same offence earlier that afternoon after driving them both home.

Maxine was found to be nearly three times over the legal limit when she gave a breathalyser reading at Middlewich police station. The veteran actress later arrived at the station and was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

She was later charged with drink-driving by Cheshire Police, and arrived at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court this morning, Thursday 24 April, wearing a black coat and pearls.

After confirming for a judge that she understood the charge against her, she said: “I am pleading not guilty.”

She was then granted unconditional bail until the trial date of July 23.

Her daughter faced a hearing earlier this month at Macclesfield Magistrates' Court and was given a two year driving ban.

Barbara has not given any comments since her initial arrest, and left the court without issuing any statement.
