The star first joined ‘Corrie’ as Katy Armstrong in 2010, but it's now been revealed she'll be leaving the cobbles behind at the end of this year.
Georgia spoke fondly of her time on the soap, saying: "I have had an amazing four years on 'Coronation Street', I have had some fantastic storylines and worked with some wonderful actors.
"I am very excited about what the future holds. While I will be sorry to say goodbye to Weatherfield I am looking forward to the challenge of new roles."
She is the latest in a long line of ‘Corrie’ stars who will be bowing out of the soap this year, including Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) and Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre), though unlike Michelle - whose character will be killed off in scenes to air later this year - the door is open for Georgia to make a ‘Corrie’ comeback in the future.
Producer Stuart Blackburn explained: “The decision to write out the character of Katy Armstrong is based on storyline discussions and will be one of the consequences of the current drama involving the Windass/Armstrong clan.
"Katy will not be killed off and the door will be left open for a possible return. We wish Georgia every success with her future career."
Katy’s family are currently embroiled in a dramatic storyline that has seen them being blackmailed by corrupt builder Pat Phelan, who has gone as far as to pressure Anna Windass into sleeping with him, though it’s not known exactly how this storyline will lead to Katy’s exit from ‘Corrie’.
Other big storylines that Georgia’s character has been involved with over her time in the soap include her fast-moving relationship with Chesney when she was still a teenager, and the couple’s decision to have a baby at a young age.
The pair later split, and Katy became involved with Ryan Connor - the son of Kym Marsh’s character Michelle - though they broke up after she discovered he was cheating on her.
Georgia is nominated in the category of ‘Sexiest Female’ - alongside ‘Hollyoaks’ actresses Jorgie Porter and Jennifer Metcalfe, and fellow ‘Corrie’ star Michelle Keegan - at this year’s British Soap Awards.
She has previously said she wishes people would stop comparing her to Michelle, explaining: “I don’t want to be the next Michelle, I want to be me.”
