McDonald's 'Happy Meals' Now Come With eBooks Instead Of Toys

Depending on how much you worry about nutritional information, there's a good chance you have fond memories of eating McDonald's Happy Meals as a kid.

But while almost all kids enjoy a portion of salty chips, there was another obvious reason to love that little house-shaped box of joy - the free toys.

Whether it was the classic run of Happy Meal 'Changeables' robots, or the more recent Nintendo tie-in, there has never been a shortage of cool bits of plastic inside a kids meal from the Golden Arches.

Until now.

For McDonald's has announced that its next run of boxes will instead come with… eBooks.

That's right, for a limited time UK children will get a download code for a free eBook - "Five and a Half-Term Adventure" by Enid Blyton.

Until June 3rd the codes will be found on the side of Happy Meals as part of the restaurant chain's "Happy Readers" program.

The books are being provided by Kobo.

Inside the box kids will also find a free physical Secret Seven short story, complete with colour illustrations.
