A motorist has died after a car crashed into a ditch beside a motorway.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said two other people travelling in the vehicle on the M40 in Warwickshire, including a seven-year-old girl, were uninjured.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway near Gaydon at about 10.25am on Sunday.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: "Crews arrived to find a car that had left the carriageway and had overturned in a ditch.

"The car had been carrying three occupants at the time of the incident.

"The driver of the car, a man, was immediately assessed by ambulance crews but unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene."
