The Met Ball 2014 was held in New York on Monday night, and saw a whole host of A-listers coming out in force to flaunt their best outfits on the red carpet…except for Madonna that is.
In fact, she decided to give this year’s gala a miss after her outfit was obviously deemed too raunchy for the red carpet.

Luckily, Madge gave fans a sneak peek at what could have been when she uploaded a picture of the barely-there outfit to her Instagram page, which she claims Anna Wintour herself - who organises the event and decides who will attend - put the brakes on.

Madonna captioned the saucy pic: “What i wanted to wear to Met Ball but Anna said Not this year! So I'm gonna work on music instead?”
This wouldn’t have been the first time that Madonna had turned heads at the Met Ball, though, as her outfit from last year’s event also left little to the imagination.
In keeping with 2013’s “punk” theme the star rocked up in a tartan jacket, which was unbuttoned enough to give photographers a peek at her cleavage, and, true to form, was wearing nothing on her bottom half.
As if that wasn’t enough, she paired the ensemble with a bewildering black wig, because otherwise it simply wouldn’t have been enough, would it?

Still, we must admit we can’t help but feel sad about not getting to see Madonna wearing her boob-tastic ensemble on this year's red carpet, if only so that Kim Kardashian - who suffered a slight wardrobe malfunction on her way into the event - wouldn’t have been the only celebrity giving people an eyeful...
