De Gea Named United Fans Players' Player Of The Year (PICTURES)

David de Gea was deservedly named Manchester United supporters and players' player of the year on Tuesday night.

The Spaniard, one of the few to have performed to a consistently high level during a tumultuous season, was voted the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year ahead of Wayne Rooney.

After receiving his prize, 23-year-old De Gea said: "I want to thank the fans. From my very first day at the club, I have felt their love and I’m really happy. For them, we will try next season to do our best again."

Teenager James Wilson, who scored twice on his career debut against Hull City on Tuesday, received the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.

De Gea, who experienced an error-strewn maiden season in England, improved in his second campaign and was named in the Professional Footballers' Association's Team of the Year.

De Gea was also voted the players' player of the year

However, while he still made a number of memorable mistakes in Sir Alex Ferguson's final season, he has hardly put a foot wrong this term, with the exception of fumbling Phil Bardsley's shot into his own net as United lost their Capital One Cup semi-final to Sunderland.

Match of the Day viewers also voted his stop from a Luis Suárez strike as the save of the season on Wednesday.

Wayne Rooney's 60-yard belter at West Ham was named the goal of the season, ahead of Adnan Januzaj's volley at Sunderland and Patrice Evra's rising rasper against Bayern Munich.
