iOS 8 Latest Rumour: Split-Screen iPad Multitasking

Your iPad Might Be About To Get Twice As Useful

Apple is preparing to make split-screen multitasking possible with its next major iPad software update, rumours suggest.

Apple rumours site 9to5Mac posits that the long awaited feature could come in iOS 8, expected to debut in June at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC).

Several of the iPad's competitors, including Microsoft Surface tablets and some Samsung Android tablets, are already able to run two apps side-by-side.

But Apple has always resisted the idea, presumably in order to maintain the simplicity of its devices as opposed to any overt technical difficulty in implementation.

But now it looks like that could be about to change. 9to5Mac says that sources close to iOS 8 - it doesn't get any less specific than that, folks - are anticipating the feature will arrive either for all iPads with iOS 8, or for a specifically larger new iPad later in 2014/2015.
