Moto E: Specs, Release Date, Price For Motorola's New Mid-Range Smartphone

There's A New Champion Android (At The Low End)

Motorola have announced a new low-cost Android smartphone with some intriguingly decent hardware.

The new Moto E is designed to be durable, simple and affordable, but with enough neat design touches to appeal to those with an eye for design.

The key specs for the £89 unlocked phone include:

  • 4.3-inches, 540x960 display
  • Android 4.4 operating system
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 200
  • MicroSD storage
  • 5-megapixels camera
  • 4G
  • Replaceable 'shell' covers

"We believe it’s time the feature phone era came to an end and that quality smartphones are made accessible and affordable for all. Say hello to Moto E and join us in officially saying goodbye to the feature phone forever."

The phone is Motorola's first announcement since it was purchased by Lenovo following an unsuccessful stint as a Google-owned business.

Motorola also announced a revised Moto G, with 4G, a MicroSD slot and a new price of £149.

While today's announcement will interest those looking for a cheap low-cost smartphone, attention will almost universally now turn to Motorola's spiffy-looking Moto 360 wearable smartwatch, which has won a huge amount of hype and praise since its unveiling last month.
