Yaya Touré Confirms He Is Considering Leaving Manchester City

'Everything My Agent Said Is True' - Touré Reveals He Could Leave City Over Cakegate

Yaya Touré has confirmed he could leave Manchester City after a bizarre day began with his agent insisting the club had forgotten to wish him a happy birthday.

"My agent was trying to make a point here on my behalf, joke aside," Touré tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. "It seems important for me to make a statement..i am going to do so."

Touré said he will explain his feelings after the World Cup - which ends on 13 July - enshrouding his future in doubt.

The farce began when Touré's agent, Dimitri Seluk, erroneously claimed City "forgot" to about the 31-year-old's birthday. City had, however, tweeted Touré on his 31st last week and posted a video in which they presented him with a cake.

"What happened at his birthday meant the club don't care about him. It was proof. They can say whatever they want," Seluk told the Sun.

Later, Seluk told the BBC: "He got a cake but when it was Roberto Carlos's birthday, the president of Anzhi gave him a Bugatti.

"I hear one newspaper has written that City congratulated him from Twitter but this is a joke. It is better they don't put anything on Twitter if they are not saying anything to him."

Seluk warned Touré could leave City last year and the year before, yet his tirade has this time been backed up by his client and City's close season has descended into a surreal farce.

Touré initially tweeted after Seluk's comments: "Thanks for all the birthday messages today. Card from City just arrived... Must have got lost in the post. Haha"

"Jokes aside. Please do not take words that do not come out of MY mouth seriously. Judge my commitment to @MCFC by my performances."

Seluk even criticised City's owners for gorging on a 100kg cake after their championship win.

"The club's owners ate a 100kg cake after winning the Premier League this season but when they and the players were all together, none of them shook his hand on his birthday," Seluk bemoaned. "It shows they don't care about him."
