Emma Thompson Says She Hates Twitter: 'I'd Rather Have Root Canal Treatment For The Rest Of My Life'

'I'd Rather Have A Root Canal Than Join Twitter'

Emma Thompson has spoken about her hatred of Twitter, claiming it’s destroying an entire generation of users.

The Oscar-winning star says that she thinks the social networking site is dangerous because its users don’t know the long-term consequences of being constantly connected to one another.

Emma went on to criticise the way we create platforms like Twitter without thinking about the repercussions, claiming we’re all “stupid” and explaining: “We invent stuff, we just fling it out there, we let anyone use it. A three-year-old could f***ing be on Twitter.

“And then we will wonder why, at the age of 60, an entire generation chucks itself off a cliff like a bunch of lemmings. Actually, that’s the most likely outcome, don’t you think? It’s like, “I can’t take this anymore!” It’s the lemming generation, I’m telling you.”

When asked whether or not she ever looks up her own name on Google, she replied: “Putting my head in the toilet and flushing it repeatedly would be a more cleansing experience.”

So... we won’t be asking Emma Thompson to follow us on Twitter any time soon.

Meanwhile, last month the actress described it as a “tragic mistake” to make films specifically for older audiences, saying: “The fact is that the film industry has tried to separate us into groups, and it's a mistake culturally, artistically and economically.”
