Who Is United And Liverpool Target Konoplyanka?

Yevhen Konoplyanka's €15 million buyout clause is set to be triggered by a club from England, Spain or Germany this summer, and after Liverpool failed to acquire the 24-year-old Ukrainian, Manchester United have emerged as another side interested in the Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger.

Brendan Rodgers hinted back in January Konoplyanka could be Liverpool's "major signing" of the winter window. He would have made the move had Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi refused to sanction the transfer, and that decision, coupled with Konoplyanka's form, has alerted other clubs across the continent.

United and Liverpool are both in desperate need of wingers. For a club with a long history of wing play, the current crop at United is the worst in decades and Ashley Young, Nani, Antonio Valencia and Wilfried Zaha are not guaranteed to still be at Old Trafford next season.

Konoplyanka scored against England at Wembley in 2012

Rodgers attempted to integrate Victor Moses - on loan from Chelsea - into his Liverpool XI this season, yet he made just six Premier League starts as the Reds' team quickly took shape.

Konoplyanka has spent his entire career at Dnipro and scored 15 times for them this season, including the winner against Tottenham in the Europa League.

He started all three of Ukraine's matches at the 2012 European Championship and later that year shone at Wembley, scoring the opener as England narrowly avoided defeat in a 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw.

Konoplyanka has attained 36 caps to date and turns 25 in September. Dnipro are braced for him to leave this summer, and his versatility across the front three will appeal to numerous clubs.
